Dimensional weight, often known as DIM weight, is the space that a package occupies while being shipped. Consider the amount of room there is in a truck or a plane. If your box occupies a little more room than the weight it is charged for, you will be charged for that extra room. You are charged either the real or dimensional weight whichever is higher. Dimensional weight is calculated by multiplying the length, width and height of the shipment and dividing it by a courier specific volumetric divisor.

Zone

Zone in logistics is used a proxy for distance travlled in shipping. Most courier partners define regions such as North, South, East, West or Special regions (this demarcates areas where cost of operations is higher than other parts of the country. For instance cost of operations in North East and Jammu, Kashmir is high due to difficult terrain). Zone is then defined as movement of shipments within the same city, within the same region, between two different regions, from metro to metro or to/from Special Regions.



Import Duty

It refers to the tax or charges imposed by the government on goods that are imported from other countries. Import duty depends on multiple factors such as the type and value of goods. Import duty is one of the major sources of revenue for the government and saves local businesses from extreme international competition.


